Main Task
Double Page Spread
I based my Double Page Spread issue on MTV Magazines “Erupted”
issue. This issue in particular stood out as it had numerous examples of
elaborate text fonts and images edits – the typography matched the theme well
and it was a good example of how you can represent a particular genre within a
text. The singer who the exclusive double page spread is based on is both the
background image and the main image of the Double Page Spread. This photo does
not show her eyes and this hides her identity. The title is “She Is Back”
although her face is hidden – This makes the page more interesting as you want
to know who is back as you can’t work it out just from the photo or title. The text headings and drop text titles are in
yellow which stands out well against the black background and yellow as a
colour is bold which emphasises the artists bold personality. I used Photoshop
to edit the singers face, making her seem airbrushed and structured the Double
page spread on Illustrator.
Contents Page
Constructing my contents page was a challenge. I used a
range of techniques to incorporate the multiple colours used, frame the side
bar, use the image as the whole background, use a structure texts and place
images chronologically.
I used Photoshop to edit the contents page. The title is
framed slightly across the top of the page to allow space for the Hot 100 side bar,
which tells the readers the top 100 songs of that month, every issue.
Underneath the contents page title, a sub heading of the Volume/issue number in
a small yellow rectangle – continuing the yellow and black theme from the front
cover. Underneath that are a few photos of main stories within the magazine
along with numbers inside the photo so the reader knows what page they can find
the story.
Further down the page is an online section, detailing a
brief update on all the latest online news. Next to the Facebook, Twitter and
Youtube sections a small image of the logo is placed next to it. Using
technology and media with in the magazine. This keeps the magazine up to date
with technology and appeals to the young target audience of 14-18yr old who
would use all these social sites. This is also showing good marketing.
